Message from the Chair
I have had the opportunity to be on the Board of Directors for the Walkerton Clean Water Centre since its inception in 2004. I have seen the Centre’s staff, together with its physical infrastructure, grow stronger and more capable each year. The Centre is administering, developing and delivering a range of valuable courses including the Ministry of the Environment’s mandatory certificate renewal course. In some weeks, over 20 training sessions are being delivered. The Centre has become a strong research and technology partner to municipalities, researchers, technology companies, First Nations and engineers. The WCWC Research & Technology Institute has an important focus on practical research for small systems.
The objective of the Board of Directors and staff of the Centre is to continue to deliver on our core mandate; to focus on the safeguarding of drinking water for the people of Ontario, to make training accessible to small and remote communities, to provide the required training and to offer training to First Nations.
As part of our mandate, the Centre is prepared to continue to offer support to resolve the drinking water issues in Ontario’s First Nation communities. Our primary role is to make available and to offer training to the First Nations operators as a fundamental component in the efforts to deliver safe drinking water. Specific to this initiative, the following are a few highlights from 2011:
The Centre’s efforts to support First Nations will continue in 2012.
The WCWC has a clear and compelling direction. This focus allows us to deliver on our mandate and mission even in times of constraint.
We look forward to 2012. The Centre is determined to continue to provide effective support to Ontario’s water sector.
